“UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN” GRAM SABHA HELD AT VILLAGE CHUDIYALA MOHANPUR (HARIDWAR, UTTARAKHAND) ON JANUARY 30, 2020 (11.30am to 2pm)
UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN (UBA) a flagship program of Ministry of Human Resource Development , Government of India.
Under this program, RIT has adopted five villages for their development in collaboration with district administration. A gram Sabha was called on January 30, 2020 which was attended by the Gram Pradhan, Mr. Yogendra Tyagi and his wife Mrs. Rekha, three faculty members of RIT (Dr. Aruna Bhat, Mr. Harshit Gautam and Mr. Deepak Kashyap), nine students from various disciplines of RIT and more than 35 villagers including women of all age groups and the children. Many problems were brought out through discussion. A few of these are as follows:
- No proper drainage system of waste water. The situation becomes worse during monsoons when all the dirty water gets collected and produces foul smell and infections. This water flows through the streets resulting in all roads being slushy.
- No proper place for putting garbage. The villagers are not segregating the wet and the dry garbage and even they are not using dustbins.
- The water is being wasted during washing, bathing, cleaning cattle and other domestic animals as the taps runs continuously for hours together.
- Mostly all the families have toilets but even then they go to fields for nature’s call.
- Extensive use of pesticides which has also destroyed the organisms that were natural manures and used as rich fertilizers for crop productivity.
- The women folk are not aware of the products which are used as hygiene products and can help in eliminating and reducing skin and other such infections.
- The women are looking for a healthcare centre in their village only which can provide the facilities during pregnancy and childbirth.
- Use of polythene has reduced to a great extent.
During this meeting the women were taught to follow the hygiene principles like washing hands with soap before and after having meals and after using toilets. They were also given information regarding girl education, beti bachao beti padao campaign, cleanliness, sanitation, personal hygiene and other such related issues.
