About the Department

Teachers play a very important role in a student’s life. It is, to a great extent, the teachers who decide the shape a student’s life will take. So, it is very necessary to be adequately equipped with resources that will make the teacher a perfect role model to the students. To achieve this, Bachelor of Education or B.Ed. was introduced, which will teach a person about teaching and the various aspects associated with teaching. Once a person completes the Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) coaching or training, then he is awarded with a B.Ed. degree. On this page, we have tried to list all the B. Ed colleges that provide teaching training and coaching in India. We can see Himalayan college as a best B.Ed. college in Uttarakhand.

Himalayan College has been established by the ‘Himalayan Charitable Trust’ Roorkee in 2005 to facilitate the B Ed Course. This College of Education is permanently recognized by National council for Teachers Education (NCTE) vide their letter No. FNRC/NCTE/F-3/UR-46/4836-4845 date 01-07-2005 is presently affiliated to Hemawati Nandan Bahugua Garhwal University Srinagar for award of one year degree of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).

Himalayan College takes pride in being located in a serene and salubrious environment on 8th K.M. Stone, Dehradun Road, at National Highway. It is also a matter of great privilege for the institution to be situated in Roorkee which is famous as an educational hub of Northern India. An outstanding sprawling green more than five thousand square meters of campus which includes a well-structured college building. The College infrastructure has been adequately designed to meet the needs of importing Teacher’s Training to the B. Ed aspiring candidates. The college since its inception has successfully passed out o8 B.Ed. Batches each of 100 seat strength with essential teaching skills and knowledge of the field. The college keeps all of the promises of fulfilling the essential needs to groom future citizens and skilled educators by ensuring academic excellence and quality educations.

    Various frame works have been developed to use instructional resources for language to meet the needs of students and faculty. It is a key feature of effective teaching for language, so to implement it. We have a language lab in our institution to enhanced good communication skill in language. Speaking skills are developed by oral presentation, debate, discussion and brain storming, language game etc. To develop the reading ability different levels of text, type of texts are provided and analyzed. During internship we motivate the students to use charts, models, language games in classroom and how to remove the language problem, spelling error etc. in class.

    Art & Craft


    Art education may be perceived as a tool for the development as aesthetic sensibility among learner to enable them to respond to the beauty in color, shape, from, movement. Art educations and appreciation of one’s cultural heritage may go side by side and reinforce the understanding of each other’s. Art education enables students and faculty to fully experience the joy of teaching learning. It enables them to fully appreciate and experience the beauty of the universe and helps in their healthy-mental development. Other objectives of art educations are to being student closer to their environment, to them about their cultural heritage and to inculcate in them respect for each other’s work. Fine art would have developed enough motivations and interest among them in the subject. Art education can provide most satisfying medium of creative expression which has to be given due importance the best interest of the society. We have an art & craft lab to enhance students for their art activity. According to our syllabus we teach the theory as well as do the practicum class with power point presentation. We have tried to develop their color sense, value of heritage and as well as beauty of nature. We teach them how to develop proper collage work, poster design and mainly thing that how to prepare any model useful for teaching learning out of waste or low-cost materials.

    Teaching is the profession that makes all other professions possible. It is not an exaggeration to say that the future of a nation is always in the hands of its teachers. The role of a teacher in inculcating the ethical values, scientific temper and humanistic concerns in the students is considered the most vital components of the whole process of education.

    Both imparting and receiving education have become a very challenging task for the stake holders the teacher and the learner in this age of knowledge explosion. Each classroom is filled with students who may grow into leaders in their professions or less well-known but valuable contributors to their communities. The teacher has to groom the students to face newer challenges and equipping them with necessary skills. The college has been offering teacher education program with the help of dedicated faculty and excellent back up facilities. Since its inception it has been preparing inspiring teachers with the qualities like ability to develop positive relationships, passion for learning, love and appreciation of children, match actions with words and be lifelong learners. Further they are trained to be open minded, facilitate a learning environment in which all students feel valued and believe they can make important contribution to the group, communicate an enthusiasm for the subject matter, help students understand that learning will be worth the effort, be flexible and allow students unconditionally. Further they are trained not to engage in counterproductive behavior in the classroom.
