  • CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY LAB

The concrete laboratory is equipped with instruments to determine the physical properties of construction materials like cement, fine and coarse aggregate, strength characteristics of cement mortar and plain cement concrete.

The tests include determination of specific gravity, fineness, normal consistency, setting times, workability and soundness of cement, fineness modulus of fine and coarse aggregate, strength of cement mortar, cement concrete, flexural strength of concrete and conducting non-destructive tests on concrete.

The students will be able to infer the suitability of these materials for construction. They can design the mix, make the specimens and test the same for the strength for comparison with design strength.

On the basis of the tests conducted in CT Lab, the quality control assurance, stability and longevity of the structures could be determined.

    STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS LAB

Structural Analysis laboratory gives students a much needed exposure to underst the theoretical/practical concepts of structural analysis.

This lab is unique because of its testing facilities for various structural members both determinate and indeterminate structures. The laboratory hosts several loading apparatus like trusses, coupled beams, portal frames, two hinged and three hinged arches, struts/columns and many more. This knowledge can be applied in a real-life design project, developing skills in the design of structures to satisfy functional and strength requirements.

    GEOLOGY ENGINEERING LAB

The geology lab has equipmentwhich are required to conduct the tests to understand the role of geology in the design and construction process of underground openings in rock, to identify and classify rocks using basic geological classification systems.

The geological study helps to establish the geotechnical framework needed to properly design and construct heavy civil projects like tunneling, dam and to identify/characterize intact rock properties. The Geology lab is also used for experiments related to crystallography and mineralogy. Basic facilities are available in this lab for experiments on structural geology.

    MATERIAL TESTING LAB

For effective use of materials for construction, it is imperative to know its properties to check its quality and get desired strength. This lab deals with different tests like standard consistency, initial and final setting time of cement, water absorption and compressive strength of materials etc.

By performing experiments in this lab, students will be able to examine the quality of materials used and how to maintain quality standard at construction site. Also students will be able to get knowledge about how much quantity of water is to be added in cement to get desired workability and strength.

Material testing is so important for civil engineering practices that this lab is adequately established at all important construction sites also to ensure optimum quality control.

    DESIGN OF RC ELEMENTS LAB

This lab deals with the different types of elements of RC Structures like beams, slabs, columns, foundations etc.

By using this lab, students will be able to analyze the behavior of concrete, analysis of compression members, development length of reinforcement, deflection and crack control of reinforced concrete members, different footings etc. Also students will be able to use IS codes directly to design and make structural elements.

RC elements play significant role in all civil engineering structures and students can acquire the proficiency in civil engineering only by mastering the RCC/structural elements studied in this lab.

    GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING LAB

The laboratory is equipped with the testing equipment to evaluate the different properties of soils including their engineering properties, index properties, grain size, coefficient of consolidation, compaction characteristics, shear strength of soil etc.

By performing this lab, students will learn how the characteristics of soil are determined and applicability of different concepts like Darcy’s law, permeability, shear strength etc.

The test results inferred through this lab are mandatory for designing foundations of all types of structures viz. industries, skyscrapers, dams, bridges, rail/roads and heavy machines foundations etc.

    SURVEYING LAB

The basic requirement of any project starts from surveying. This laboratory deals with the different instruments which are used for surveying like chain, compass, levels, plane table, total station etc.

By performing surveying tests in this lab students will be able to familiarize themselves with the principles of recording accurately, orderly, complete and logical field notes from surveying operations. Also, students will get knowledge to identify and calculate the errors in measurements and use the corrected values for better design.

    ENVIRONMNETAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY

Environmental Engineering Lab is one of the most important laboratories in the Civil Engineering Department. The Environmental Laboratory supports the environmental protection functions by performing chemical and bacteriological analyses of environmental samples including drinking water, surface water, waste water, sediment, air, soil and hazardous waste. This lab helps the students to carry out their research projects in the allied Environmental Engineering field.

The concept of Environmental Engineering has acquired enormous significance in Metropolitan/smart cities for efficient and cost effective disposal of waste.

    TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING

The Transportation Engineering lab has equipment required to conduct standardized tests to assess quality of highway materials, pavement evaluation and traffic engineering studies. Experimental knowledge is acquired by conducting various experiments to meet the highway engineering requirements.

TE Lab conducts spot speed studies, volume counts and conflict studies for preparing road improvement plans to enhance road safety.

Keeping exponential growth in mind in mass transit facilities and ever-increasing number of vehicles used on roads and highways has laid lot of impetus on the data analysis. Quality testing of material used in transportation engineering from design maintenance and repair point of view helps in establishing effective traffic management strategies.
